Announcing the Arizona Coalition for People and Pets!
In April 2023, we announced our statewide expansion thanks to a grant from the Arizona Governor’s office. In April 2024, we announced our groundbreaking partnership with UMOM New Day Center. It’s now April 2025, which can only mean one thing – it’s time for another exciting announcement!
Over the past 12 years, we have met with hundreds of government agencies, nonprofits, and legislators. Throughout this time, it has become increasingly clear that while The Arizona Pet Project plays a vital role in addressing the needs of people in crisis with pets, we are but one organization, and the need is simply too great for us to meet on our own. We need an army of advocates and organizations that believe in the power of the human-animal bond, and are committed to systemic changes in how services are delivered across Arizona.
Which is why we are thrilled to announce the launch of our brand-new subsidiary nonprofit, the Arizona Coalition for People and Pets! The Coalition is a meaningful extension of our existing work, which will bring together organizations and individuals who share a commitment to the well-being of both people and pets. It’s a dream come true for the policy nerds on our team.
The Arizona Coalition for People and Pets will:
- Collaborate with community partners across sectors to bridge the gap between human and animal services.
- Educate people and organizations about the human-animal bond and best practices by creating pet-inclusive services through reference materials, learning sessions, policy briefs, webinars, and more.
- Advocate for systemic change and long-term solutions to remove barriers people with pets face in accessing life-saving services.
The Arizona Coalition for People and Pets works at the intersection of human services and pet ownership to create collective action for low-income and vulnerable people with animals.
Together, we can ensure that nobody is forced to choose between their own basic needs of food, shelter, and healthcare, and their beloved pets – often, the only meaningful connection they have.
