Meet The Arizona Pet Project’s Southern Arizona Social Worker

Hi! My name is Karmina, and I am The Arizona Pet Project’s Southern Arizona social worker. Working in human services since 2014, time and time again, I have witnessed firsthand the deficit of human and pet issues.

Before I joined The Arizona Pet Project staff, I had worked in case management and social work, primarily with unaccompanied minors, behavioral health, and public health.

Last year, I found a wonderful opportunity with The Arizona Pet Project that supported families by providing pet-related services throughout Pima County in a community I care deeply about: Southern Arizona!

Being a Part of the Expansion in Southern Arizona Has Been Gratifying!

Learning that The Arizona Pet Project was expanding its lifesaving services to my neck of the woods was VERY exciting! As a pet lover, I had already heard about the work they were doing to help low- and fixed-income pet families in crisis, and I knew I wanted to get involved!

Thankfully, I was able to join the team, and fast forward to now, I am still incredibly grateful to be here. Providing support to my community and surrounding areas gives them (and me!) hope.

How I Help Pet Families as a Social Worker

As a social worker, I listen to their struggles and do what I can to financially support any pet-related barriers to keep loving pet families together. And I have witnessed immense gratitude from our clients who have received our support and resources.

My favorite thing about my job has been being a part of these stories of helping pet families. When I see our organization send out a new email with a story about a family our team was able to help, I sit down to read it whenever I have a few minutes. I absolutely love it and it makes my heart happy! My other favorite thing is getting updates from our clients and seeing photos of their fur babies weeks and even a few months after we’ve helped them!

Every time I get to help a pet family, it reassures the powerful work that is being done within our organization. And none of our work would be possible without donations from compassionate people like you!
