Yokai has always been his owner’s pride and joy. She rescued him when he was just a pup, abandoned by his previous owners. She gave Yokai a loving home and a happy life, but circumstances suddenly took a turn for the worse.

Yokai’s mom lost her job, and with it, the ability to pay rent.

When their landlord kicked them out, Yokai’s owner found herself struggling to make ends meet. She tried to find a job that would help her get caught up in time, but with no luck.

With no other options left, she and her beloved dog were facing homelessness.

She couldn’t stand the idea of parting with him, and knew that it would be much more difficult for her to find safe shelter until she could locate a new place for the two of them to live. Yokai’s caring owner desperately searched for temporary boarding options for him, but every place she called was either too expensive or already full.

Just as she started to lose hope, she found out about The Arizona Pet Project and their goal of keeping pets with families.

One of the services our team provides is temporary boarding for pets of owners facing homelessness or other difficult situations. When she learned this, she was ecstatic, and our team was so happy they could assist them!

Our boarding partners welcomed Yokai into their facility with open arms and assured his owner that he would be taken care of until she got back on her feet.

For the first time in weeks, Yokai’s owner can breathe a little easier.

Knowing that Yokai is in good hands, she can focus on finding a job and a new home. Everyday, she calls to check in on him, and she has so much hope for this next chapter in their lives.
