A Leap Forward for Pet Families: $207,000 Mercy C.A.R.E.S. Grant & 2024 RISE Award in Provider Innovation

Oct 17, 2024

The Arizona Pet Project Received $207,000 Grant Funding from Mercy C.A.R.E.S.

In case you missed our incredible news earlier this year, The Arizona Pet Project was named a Mercy C.A.R.E.S. grant recipient, receiving a $207,000 grant to support our vital work.

The grant funds will specifically support Mercy Care‘s Medicaid members by removing pet-related barriers to:

  • Healthcare.
  • Mental health services.
  • Substance use and diversion programs.
  • Safe shelter and housing.
  • Eviction prevention.
  • Access to pet food and supplies.

This partnership with Mercy C.A.R.E.S. advances health equity, aligning with our shared vision that everyone, particularly those underserved with complex health needs, deserves to live a healthier life and achieve their full potential.

We’ve witnessed firsthand the transformative power of the human-animal bond, providing mental and physical health benefits and reducing substance abuse. This grant brings us closer to integrating into the Medicaid delivery system, connecting low-income and vulnerable individuals with essential services for themselves and their pets.

The Arizona Pet Project Recognized for Innovative Excellence: 2024 RISE Award

This week, The Arizona Pet Project received the 2024 RISE Award in Provider Innovation, recognizing our innovative approach to addressing social factors that impact overall health and well-being.

The RISE Award acknowledges excellence in delivering mental and physical health care and substance use treatment.

But what makes our work truly unique? As recognized by the RISE Awards:

“The Arizona Pet Project (AZPP) is the only agency of its kind in the country working at the intersection of human services and pet ownership to remove barriers to accessing human care for low-income and vulnerable individuals with animals. They provide resources and services to keep pets and people together during financial hardship or crisis. Due to AZPP’s focus on systems-level change and policy work, Arizonans with pets have increased access to safe shelter, transitional and permanent housing, healthcare, substance use treatment, and employment.”

This award validates our mission to address the complex needs of individuals and families, acknowledging the critical role pets play in their lives.

We extend our gratitude to Mercy C.A.R.E.S. for acknowledging the vital role pets play in promoting healthier, happier lives. We’re honored to receive this recognition and thankful for the ongoing support that fuels our mission.
