Mars Veterinary Health: The Arizona Pet Project Attends Annual Pet Healthcare Industry Summit
At The Arizona Pet Project, we’re committed to creating a more compassionate, supportive society that embraces the health and well-being of people and their pets.
That’s why we were overjoyed to receive an invitation to the annual Pet Healthcare Industry Summit hosted by Mars Veterinary Health in Nashville, Tennessee. This year’s theme was “A More Sustainable Future for Veterinary Medicine,” and brought together industry leaders in academia, veterinary medicine, and pet-centric foundations.
Our CEO, Leanna Taylor, sat on a panel to bring our client’s voices forward in a discussion about how the pet health industry can increase access to care for low-income and disempowered communities and why this is critical to the health and well-being of pets and people across the country.
Through the panel, we leveraged our nine years of experience in working with pet families who struggle to access veterinary care for a variety of reasons, including cost, resource deserts, transportation, disabilities, language barriers, cultural differences, and implicit and explicit biases in service delivery, to drive home the need to broaden the understanding of pet ownership in veterinary medicine.
We were heartened to hear many of the values that are so important to our team reiterated throughout the summit!
- The power of the human-animal bond: Recognition of the profound impact of pets on human well-being and resilience.
- The importance of equitable access to care: The belief that all families, regardless of income level or zip code should have access to pet care.
- Pets aren’t a luxury: The data is clear: pets improve lives, particularly for our most vulnerable community members
- The need to diversify veterinary medicine: When the professionals accurately represent the community they serve, everybody wins.
While there is a way to go in closing the gaps between these shared values and how services are currently delivered, it starts with conversations with decision-makers and influencers in the industry. To see the alignment in the room, and engagement with our CEO after the panel was incredibly heartening, and we firmly believe positive change is coming!
We’re grateful for the commitment of companies like Mars Veterinary Health to bring people together and advance the mission of agencies like The Arizona Pet Project.
And of course to all of you, who support our work! Together, we’re carving a path that enables healthier, happier futures for families (pets included!)
